Cinderella2015

Disney worked some fairytale magic this weekend with its live action retelling of “Cinderella.” Disney is hitting gold with their live action films, as “Cinderella” banked just over $67.9 million its opening weekend, which is slightly less than “Maleficent” took in during its opening weekend last May. It’ll be interesting to see how Lily James and her deceptively comfortable glass slippers hold up against the premiere of “Insurgent” this upcoming weekend as, believe it or not, they both appeal to the same demographic. What can I say? We women like our variety.

Liam Neeson’s “Run All Night” came in at a very distant second place with $11 million. After the original “Taken” it seems as though Hollywood has been very keen to have Neeson show off his action star skill set, but last week the 62-year old star told reporters he would quit making action movies in “maybe two more years.”

Rounding out the top three was “Kingsman: The Secret Service” with $6.2 million. The action/comedy starring Colin Firth and Samuel L. Jackson is now sitting nicely at $107 million since it came out last month.
