As a guy who has never been to San Diego Comic-Con, but has friends that go every year — always eager to remind me of how much fuller and richer their geek-lives are than mine — let me just give a big thank you to Disney and StarWars.com for making their exclusive Star Wars Celebration available online.

All of the important details are detailed on the official Star Wars site, but the important bits are that they’re streaming the entire conference real-time, starting at 10:00 AM on April 16th. They’re opening with the ridiculously anticipated J.J. Abrams “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” panel. And, they’ll also be covering all manner of interesting Star Wars fare throughout the celebration, including the Star Wars Fan Film Awards, the Smuggler’s Bounty radio drama and EA’s new Battlefront game.

Hopefully, Verizon and Disney are setting the trend for future live conferences. I wouldn’t even mind paying for an online pass for most of these events, especially if it allowed online entrance into some of the smaller, niche panels.
